Home Performance

How Would You Rate Your Home’s Performance?

What is home performance?

Home performance is making sure your home provides you with healthy and comfortable shelter that is energy-efficient. If you are uncomfortable in any way, bothered by the way your home is functioning, paying more than you think you should for utility bills, you could benefit from improving your home’s performance.

Jasana can help. We’re home performance specialists who use building science to get your home to perform the way it was designed. Our expertise in home performance evaluations, techniques, remodeling, and product installation increases the comfort, energy-efficiency, health, and safety of your home.

We start with a one-day thorough inspection of your home and conduct a series of comprehensive performance tests. We also provide air sealing, which is the very first step in saving energy and increasing comfort (and has a very fast payback—from a few months to 1-3 years). After we understand your home’s unique qualities and identify any major issues, we recommend a home performance plan that fits your specific needs and budget. We will help you prioritize your work to make sure you receive the greatest benefits for the best value.

Our evaluation is as extensive as our services and the products we install. Our tests and assessments include:
  • Blower Door Test: This test identifies how leaky your house is and where the biggest leaks are located. Unlike many companies that provide "test only" services, we test and repair. This is an important difference because you don’t have to pay for the testing twice—once to test and the second to verify the repairs are made properly.
  • Duct Test: A duct test determines whether your ducts are properly sealed. We use special glues to hold your ducts together so all of your heated and cooled air goes where you want it to go. Also, your return air will come straight from the house—not from inside the attic or pulled through your insulation, which is some of the dirtiest air you will find.
  • Pressure Balancing Test: Pressure balancing the rooms of your home ensures that you maintain a constant, comfortable temperature throughout your entire home and eliminate any hot/cold areas. This is achieved by making sure the air moves freely and uniformly through your house to heat and cool as your system was designed.
  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, & Cooling) System Test: We check your HVAC system to determine whether it is appropriately sized to meet your needs. An HVAC system in a well insulated and properly sealed home will save energy and make your home more comfortable. Unfortunately, most heating and cooling companies do not perform the proper sizing calculations required by code. They often oversize your system, which costs you much more money than is necessary. A well performing home can downsize its HVAC system by 50% and still keep you comfortable. You won’t know the right size unless you measure, analyze, and install the system properly.
  • Insulation Assessment: We evaluate your home’s insulation to discover any deficiencies. Installing the ideal amount of insulation is the most energy-efficient and cost-effective way to green your home. We use an infrared camera to examine the heat leaks throughout your home and determine whether they are caused by poor installation or are just degraded over time. If you have water leaks causing mold, we can frequently find these with minimal effort using the infrared camera.
  • Window Assessment: Old windows or improperly sealed windows mean you’re letting energy and money slip away. We’ll air seal and, if necessary, recommend new windows to provide you with energy savings and increased comfort.
  • Appliance Assessment: We evaluate all of your home’s appliances to determine which ones are wasting energy. There are many techniques and appliances available that conserve energy and reduce your utility bill.
  • And much more! When we come to your house for the initial assessment, we evaluate many additional areas of your home to determine EVERY possible action you can take to increase energy-efficiency, save money, and keep your family safe, healthy, and comfortable.
